Homework:
Division Worksheet
Read AR 20 minutes.
FYI: If any parents would like blue recycling bags to collect recyclables at home, please let me know and I will send one home with your child. When it is full, please send it back in or drop it off behind the school, near the dumpster.
Thanks!

I have created this blog so that my students and their parents/guardians can have immediate access to useful information about our class.

Welcome Back!
Hello everyone! I hope you had a happy, restful holiday break.
Now back to work... :)
Tonight:
Alphabetize your spelling words
Complete the multiplication worksheet. Remember, read the directions carefully before you begin. Each problem requires you to carry.
Read AR. Our party has been moved to December 16 so we can enjoy the party all afternoon, rather than having it on Friday when we have a half day. That leaves 17 calendar days till AR ends- only 13 school days!
Good luck and happy reading. :)

Happy Thanksgiving!
Hello students and families! I can tell you what I am thankful for this year---you!! I am so blessed to be your teacher and help you along your path of learning. Each and every one of you is a very special child and I am so proud to have you in my class. :)
Over the break: Please read your AR books. Students selected longer chapter books to read over the break so they can really rack up their AR points. So in-between snacking on turkey and pumpkin pie, don't forget to snuggle up with a great book.
Happy Thanksgiving and use this break to recharge and enjoy your family!

Thank you Mr. Kamau :)
Today we had a very special guest speaker, Mr. Kamau, the father of one of our students. It was wonderful to learn more about Mr. Kamau and his childhood in Kenya. Second and fourth grade joined us in welcoming Mr. Kamau and we hope to have him visit again soon!

Tuesday, Nov. 16
In preparation for Thursday's Reading Vocabulary Test, I am sending home a 2 worksheet packet that thoroughly reviews this week's vocabulary terms. Please review these terms with your child to help them become accustomed to hearing the words and their meanings. Thanks!
Continue to read AR each night. Remember, each student set personal weekly goals last Friday. Students also created their own consequences for not meeting this goal.
Good luck and happy reading!

Silly Face Photography
Parents: Over the last few weeks, we have been discussing photography by studying Louis Daguerre, the "Father of Modern Photography." On Friday, we combined what we have learned about poetry and photography and made "Silly Face" poems and photos. Each student paired up with a partner and photographed them and then wrote a silly rhyming poem about them! They had a blast! Here are some of the silly faces I wanted to share with you. :)

Happy Weekend!
Hello parents and students!
I wanted to let you know about my class's new plans for making their AR goals each six weeks. Each student and I conferenced together and decided on a specific weekly goal. Students will strive to make these mini goals each week, so that they will make their AR goal slowly and methodically. I hope this will help students to avoid the last minute rush to complete their goals.
Happy reading!

Happy Veteran's Day! 11-11-10
Thank you to all who have served our country! You and your families sacrifices are greatly appreciated.
Homework:
Spelling sentences worksheet- use this as a chance to review for our test tomorrow.
Read AR- remember you have to read and test on three books by tomorrow.
Memorize multiplication facts- remember tomorrow is the final day for math facts testing. If you cannot complete your tables through 12x12 by tomorrow, you will be learning them at recess next week. I don't want anyone to miss out on recess, but we must memorize these facts before we can move forward in math.
GOOD LUCK!!!

Homework and a few important notes
Homework: Read AR, memorize at least two multiplication tables and complete the"Write the Right Word" worksheet.
Important Notes:
We need to start collecting cans for our classrooms ASAP! Several things have prevented us from beginning our school-wide collection program and we only have until Friday to collect our cans. The classroom with the most cans wins a party! It looks like 4th grade is in the lead with about 100 cans. We CAN do it!
I found a great website to help out your child with their weekly spelling list- www.spellingcity.com. Your student (or you) can type in the week's spelling words and the site will test your child or create a game using our weekly word list! So much fun! We will try to work in time during the day to try out this site as well.
Have a great night and please commit to bringing in at least 2 cans tomorrow!
Thank you for your generosity!

Mulitiplication Worksheet- Have your parents time you for one minute and see how many you can answer! Then finish the worksheet. PARENTS: Please take the opportunity to briefly verbally quiz your kids throughout the day. Even just this tiny amount of extra review greatly enhances memorization of the times tables. :)
Spelling test tomorrow! Please review your words by writing them out.
Congratulations to everyone who made AR. Our party will be tomorrow afternoon. :)

Wish List
Dear parents,
As we come to the close of our second six weeks, there are a few things I would like to ask from you. We use dry erase boards in the classroom that I purchased from the dollar store. Unfortunately, the are falling apart a bit. Also our class seems to be flying through the dry erase markers!
So I am reaching out to you. If it is at all possible I would greatly appreciate any donations of dry erase boards or dry erase markers. It makes our learning so much more engaging when students can immediately respond by writing out their answer on their boards.
Also, I am trying to expand our weekly art projects to include more fine arts. If you have any watercolors you could donate, that would greatly enhance our projects!
Thanks so much for helping keep our classroom an inspiring place. :)

November 2- ELECTION DAY!!!
Parents: Don't forget to get out and vote today. No matter your political opinions, make your voice heard! :)
Students:
Homework tonight: I am giving you two worksheets (yes, I know more worksheets!) one on the vocabulary from our story and one on comprehension of the story. I am sending these home to help you prepare for our Vocabulary and Comprehension Test on Thursday. "What Ever Happened to the Baxter Place" is a long story so make sure you completely understand the summary you read tonight.
AR CLOSES IN TWO DAYS!!! So far we have 10 friends at the AR party. The rest of you are so close and I know if you read tonight and tomorrow you can make it! Good luck and happy reading!
Mrs. Anderson
P.S. Please keep reviewing those multiplication flashcards! As we continue to get into more difficult material, you need to know those facts to move forward. THANK-YOU! :)

Monday, Nov. 1
Happy Monday everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween weekend and are not too full of candy!
Tonight's homework: Alphabetize your spelling words and complete the 11 & 12 multiplication worksheet.
***********I WILL NOT be taking this worksheet for a grade, however since we have our test tomorrow, I want you to use this as an opportunity to review multiplcation for tomorrow's test. The test will cover multiplication and division in word problems and number problems. We have been practicing these problems for the last few weeks and I know you can do it! HINT: Write out the 11 and 12 times table before you start your homework. Then you can copy your answers from this "cheat sheet."
Note on the test: We have been reviewing sample problems in class. Everyone seems to be doing quite well so don't panic. :)
Only three days left of AR. So many of you have made your goals, but in case you haven't, keep reading!
Have a great night and get some rest for tomorrow's math test.
